ANTIOCH BAPTIST CHURCH

The Tech Take

As a general rule, people are resistant to change. We like things the way they are; we like being comfortable. Anything that changes our routine unsettles us to some degree.

I work in technology; I'm one of those that typically "inflicts change" on others. So you'd think that I would embrace change, eager to move forward with something new.

But I, too, resist change. I've now been doing my job remotely for over a year, and I now know that this change is permanent. But early on, I resisted.

I waited until the last possible moment to vacate my office and begin working from home. And even then, I didn't set up a permanent workspace; I simply used my laptop in my lap (that's why it's called a laptop, right?). Finally, I overcame my resistance and set up an official work area. But it took time to adjust.

Change is coming to Antioch. Building are being renovated, schedules are being tweaked, visions are being shared, a new website, app, and giving solution is in the works, and, praise God, new people are joining us. And I am proud and overjoyed (and admittedly a bit surprised) that my church family is embracing these changes with open arms!

We are moving forward, as one, in the direction that God has revealed to our pastoral staff. I don't know that I've ever seen Antioch as unified as we are now.

It's likely though that amongst all these changes there will come one or two that unsettles some of us a bit. If so, we must first ensure that worship remains our focus above all else.

But we must also deal with our concerns. We can talk to our pastoral staff and find out the reasoning behind the change. We can try to understand the vision, and the desired results beyond the change.

If we allow ourselves time to adjust, hopefully we'll soon find ourselves embracing the change.

Join in the vision! Find a place to get plugged in and serve, and be a part of positive change at Antioch.

Your Technical Committee is hard at work upgrading our infrastructure to support all the upcoming changes. Maybe this is where you need to get plugged in! If you're interested in all things technology and would like to offer your time and talents to serve in this area, please let me know.

May God continue to bless Antioch Baptist Church, and keep us firmly in His path as we move forward.
